Golf tournament benefits local female veteran organization
Over 50 local golfers hit the Eagle Point Golf Course Saturday evening for a benefit tournament in support of female veterans. Hosted by the Veterans Golf Club of Southern Oregon, proceeds from the 18-hole tournament went to the organization Ladies Are Veterans Also (LAVA).
Tournament director Howard Magill said the event brings awareness to the presence and needs of female veterans in the Rogue Valley.
“We’ve always known about veterans but we always associate that with the men," Magill said. "We never really associate it with the women... and come to find out we have a few in the area, especially those who require special needs, assistance, housing.”
The goal of LAVA is to create a supportive community and improve women veterans' access to services.
Rogue Valley Veterans Community Outreach services about 500 veterans, with 50 of them being female.
