Gov. Brown orders flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Thousand Oaks shooting victims
SALEM, Ore. —
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has ordered flags across Oregon to be flown at half-staff to honor the victims killed in a shooting in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Late Wednesday night, a gunman opened fire inside a bar and killed 12 people. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office believes he also killed himself.
It was college night inside the country music bar in Southern California.
The victims include 11 people who were inside the bar and Sgt. Ron Helus who was the first law enforcement officer to respond to the incident.
"Waking up to news of the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, I am heartbroken, once again, for those who have lost their loved ones," Brown said. "Haven't we learned that nowhere in our country will be immune to gun violence until action is taken? Congress, please act now."
The White House also issued a national order to fly flags at half-staff.
Brown’s order is in place until sunset on Nov. 10.
