The seventh season of horse racing for Grants Pass Downs begin Saturday, June 15th, since it was hosted by the Southern Oregon Racing Association. Grants Pass is part of a summer fair circuit that consists of Union, Prineville, Tillamook and Burns.

Director of Communications and Marking for Grants Pass Downs, Tag Wotherspoon said this year will mostly be business as usual. However, he also said improvements to the facility and track will be gradual as the season progresses.

"What's going to be new and different this year is that Grants Pass Downs will be hosting a commercial race meet this fall starting on September 22nd,” Wotherspoon said. “So racing as we know it is changing and evolving right now and Grants Pass Downs is going to be a big part of those changes."

The race venue will now be the only commercial horse racing in Oregon since the closure of Portland Meadows last winter.
