Teenagers arrested for assaulting homeless man
Last month, a group of teenagers assaulted a homeless man at Riverside Park in Grants Pass. The suspects ran from the scene before police arrived, leaving the victim, Jerry August, 53, with a fractured humerus and a laceration to his forehead. The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety reached out to the community, asking for help in identifying the culprits of the assault.
Working in conjunction with the school resource officer and detectives, Grants Pass Police officers followed up on the investigation in the weeks after the assault. From their investigation, authorities identified three juvenile males as suspects. It was also learned that the boys used a glass bottle, as well as a children's scooter to attack the victim.
On Tuesday, the GPDPS was able to arrest three 14-year-olds for the crime. Two are facing charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree, and the Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and the third suspect is charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree. They are lodged at the Josephine County Juvenile Justice Center.
