The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is gathering information on a hit and run, which happened Wednesday night on Hale Way in White City.

911 dispatch received a call around 5 p.m. yesterday, and alerted sheriff's deputies of a crash on the 7800 block of Hale Way. An 18 year old woman had been hit by a car while crossing the road. The intersection where the crash occurred is where a bike path intersects with a two-lane roadway. Table Rock Elementary School is just a few hundred feet from the location.

The suspect, unknown at this time, is believed to have been driving a "smaller passenger car." According to authorities, the suspect fled the scene, driving east. "The driver did not stop, or in any way assist the injured woman," the JCSO statement reads. Another passerby would find the victim a short time later and call 911.

Personnel from Jackson County Fire District 3, and Mercy Flights treated the victim and transported her to an area hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance from any eye witnesses, or those that may be able to provide information from home surveillance should call 541-774-6800.
