Inmate serving time for sex crimes dies in custody two weeks before release date

Roderick Carroll died Tuesday morning while incarcerated at Warner Creek Correctional Facility. His death comes just two weeks before his earliest possible release date.

Carroll entered Department Of Corrections custody on August 15, 2013, out of Lane County, with the release date of April 4, 2019. Carroll was 57 years old. Next of kin has been notified.

According to court records, Carroll was sentenced on five charges: two charges of sodomy in the second degree, two charges of unlawful penetration in the second degree and one charge of sexual abuse in the first degree

No other details are available at this time.

The Oregon State Police have been notified, and the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

The Oregon Department of Corrections says the agency takes all in-custody deaths seriously. They oversee care and custody of 14,700 individuals who are incarcerated in 14 institutions across the state.
