Jackson County detectives investigate homicide

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, a man is in custody on multiple charges relating to an attack on his family members in their home on Friday night. JSCO said David Edward Hodges, 57, shot and killed his father-in-law and seriously injured his wife and step-daughter.
Dispatch received a 911 call on September 20th at 10:36 p.m. about a reported shooting. They responded to the location along with the Rogue River Police Department, Rogue River Fire, and Mercy Flights. Deputies called for the suspect to exit and when nobody came outside, they entered and found the body of Richard Carlton Rudolph, 64, with apparent gunshot and stab wounds.
“When the deputies went into the home, they believed an armed suspect was still inside,” Sergeant Julie Denney with the Jackson County Sherrif's Office said. “They showed incredible courage and their action helped the survivors to get much-needed medical treatment as soon as possible.”
By this time, the suspect, David Hodges, had fled the scene.
Kristie Hodges was also found in the home and had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center. He is in stable condition. Her 16-year-old daughter sustained extensive blunt and sharp force injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center for surgery and then flown to Oregon Health & Science University. JSCO said she is reportedly in serious but stable condition.
At 2:00 a.m., a JSCO K9 team found the suspect, David Hodges, hiding under a tree across the highway. He sustained minor injuries from a dog bite and was treated at Providence Medford Medical Center before being lodged in the Jackson County jail.
Hodges' charges include murder, attempted murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

As of Saturday morning, deputies said the suspect is in custody.
JSCO said deputies were called to the location late Friday night to investigate an assault with shots fired.
