Josephine County fair sees a surprising turnout in a smokey summer
The Josephine County Fair wrapped up yesterday, with results some may find surprising.
A smokey summer has hit businesses and outdoor events hard.
The outlook for the Josephine County Fair, located just outside the Taylor Creek and Klondike fires was uncertain.
But Peggy Anderson, the fairgrounds' director, says attendance was actually up this year compared to last.
"You know, we've had a couple rough years with the smoke and the heat. Luckily it was not 111 degrees and it really played to our favor. It cooled off every night and people were just happy to be here," says Anderson.
She said some people were calling the first few days concerned about smoke, but most people she talked to were excited to finally spend some time outside.
This year people came from as far away as Portland and Northern California.
