Josephine County increase recycling fees and limit recyclable items
Residents of unincorporated areas in Josephine County will see a six-percent price increase for solid waste haulers to pick up their recycling.
This was approved by the Josephine County Board of Commissioners after a presentation by Southern Oregon Sanitation and Republic Service that credited the recent price increase in recycling to China, which has stopped buying recyclables.
Cave Junction and Grants Pass have already seen an increase in waste management by the same providers.
Residents will also see a change in the items that will be accepted in to the waste management facilities, paper and glass products will no longer be admitted.
Will Schacher, a 45-year-long resident of Josephine County said,
"I don't mind paying a little bit more, I know things cost more over time, more people, the maintenance of vehicles, but also with the increase, the service should not change."
