The Josephine County Sheriff's Office said inmate Justin Allen Denney, 26, attempted to escape from the facility around noon on Saturday.

Undersheriff Travis Snyder said in a press release that Denney was access the ventilation system by a human-made hole in the roof of a janitor closet.

"Deputies immediately began checking the exterior of the jail when Denney was observed on the roof of the jail," Snyder said.

After jumping from the roof, Snyder said Denney started a foot chase with deputies and officers from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.

GPDPS officers took him back into custody. Deputies said all inmates, including Denney, are currently accounted for.

The incident is under investigation by the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.
