K-9 Officer Tracks Down Elude Suspect
PHOENIX, Ore. —
A suspected car thief was taken into custody by Jackson County K9 Remco after a lengthy pursuit through Phoenix on Wednesday night.
Phoenix Police say that 19-year-old Ruben Rivera-Rodriguez was spotted in a reported stolen vehicle around 4 p.m.
When the officer initiated a traffic stop, Police tell News 10 that Rodriguez took off driving recklessly through various Phoenix city streets. Officers say Rodriguez rammed a patrol car with the stolen vehicle he was driving before leaving city limits via Camp Baker Road.
With assistance from Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Talent Police Department, Police followed Rodriguez to the 7000 block of Griffin Lane where he exited the vehicle and ran.
After creating a perimeter and waiting for a K-9 tracking unit, Rodriguez was taken into custody by a K-9.
"The suspect was taken to the hospital to be treated for dog bites prior to being taken to the Jackson County Jail to be lodged," Phoenix Police Chief Derek Bowker said in a press release.
Police are charging Rodriguez with the following:
- Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
- Felony Elude
- Misdemeanor Elude
- Reckless Driving
- Hit and Run Property Damage X 2
- Criminal Mischief X 2
Other charges may be added at a later date.
