Klamathon Fire: Officials urging hikers to avoid California-Oregon border area
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. —
Jackson County Sheriff's Office officials are urging hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to avoid forested areas near the Oregon-California border.
The Klamathon Fire has not reached Oregon, however, Jackson County Search and Rescue officials want recreationists to avoid the areas out of concern that people will have difficulty receiving notices and evacuating quickly in the event it becomes necessary.
Search and rescue crews say they may be prohibited from engaging in search missions in the Pacific Crest Trail, Mount Ashland, and the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument due to fire danger.
Detour routes have not been established. The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management will coordinate further advisories and closures.
