A Saturday filled with fun and safety courtesy to Medford Police
Saturday’s are usually filled with relaxing and maybe swimming during the summer months, but this Saturday was filled with a lesson on safety.
Medford Police hosts multiple Safety Saturday’s throughout the summer as a chance to interact with children and other community members.
People had the opportunity to meet local officers, learn safe bicycle procedures or go through a distracted drivers course – which is important especially during the one hundred deadliest days of summer.
“We want them to leave with an understanding of all the different resources that are available in this town and all the different services that we have,” Todd Sales, Community Service Officer, said.
Police want to make sure that kids know of all the resources available to them, and learn some safety tricks while doing so.
"This allows the kids in our community to come out and participate in a safety event. So they get to go through a bike rodeo course, learn some safety skills on how to operate their bicycle, they get to come over and do a meet and greet with some of our officers and participate in the dunk tank," Sales said.
Along with Medford Police, the Medford Fire Department and Mercy flights were also in attendance.
Police say they are planning a bigger safety event for September which will be at the Rogue Valley Mall.
