Motorist Sentenced in Death of Grants Pass Teenager
JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. —
A Central Point man was sentenced last week regarding the death of a teenager after being struck by a vehicle.
Josephine County Circuit Court Judge Robert Bain sentenced Christopher Faibish to 16 months in prison for criminally negligent homicide in the death of 15-year-old Malachi Batty.
On March 10, 2017 around 7 a.m., Batty was waiting for the school bus when Faibish fell asleep at the wheel, veered across Redwood Avenue near Wineteer Lane.
Faibish's vehicle struck and killed Batty, who was a sophomore at Grants Pass High School at the time.
Josephine County Circuit Court staff confirmed that Faibish's urine tested positive for heroin, cocaine and Ritalin.
In addition to 16 months on a homicide charge, he was also charged an additional 10-days for heroin use.
Josephine County Deputy District Attorney and prosecutor Lisa Turner says that Tina Marie, the mother of Malachi Batty, had forgiven Faibish at the sentencing.
