Nationwide test scheduled
Thursday, September 20, 2018 at approximately 11:18 am, Pacific Time, televisions, radios, and participating wireless carriers will emit an emergency alert.
This will only be a test preformed in collaboration by the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Emergency Management System. Users should expect the alert to sound something similar to a dial-up tone.
The Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) will affect most cell phones, if the wireless carrier chose to participate in the test.
The Emergency Alert System (EAS) test will affect all television and radio stations is scheduled to begin at 11:20 am, and is set to last about one minute.
This will be the fourth national EAS test since its inception in 2011.
Government agencies collaborated in this project to be better prepared in times of an emergency or disaster.
