ODOT says you can't rely on deicer alone when traveling on roadways
MEDFORD, Ore. —
The Oregon Department of Transportation says it is that time to start worrying about slick roads.
ODOT says just because the sun is out doesn't mean the ice has fully melted and so the best rule of thumb is to drive with caution and leave extra time for the morning commute.
"Obviously when we get into these very clear mornings where we have frost on the roadway, drivers need to be aware that as they go from city streets, county roads, state highways, that the road conditions can change depending on what type of street they're on," said Gary Leaming, the ODOT spokesman.
ODOT says the highway was deiced but sometimes that deicer may be thin in places so it cannot compensate for fast drivers.
