[UPDATE] Oregon State Police have identified the two people involved in the fatal accident at the Hellgate Overlook early Saturday morning.

OSP says 21 year-old Hailee Fox died at the scene and 24 year-old Rodrigo Herrera was taken to a hospital for his injuries.

On Saturday at about 12:50 a.m, Grants Pass police received a call from a woman saying a man had been assaulted and he was in need of medical attention. She stayed on the phone with dispatchers as she was driving to the hospital.

As Troopers were on the way to where the call came from, they found the male in the middle of Galice Rd and evidence of a vehicle that left the road and went into Hellgate Canyon.

Rural Metro Fire rappelled into the canyon and found a Honda Civic with Fox.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a vehicle fell over an embankment at the Hellgate Overlook early Saturday morning.

Rural Metro Fire and American Medical Response were sent to a vehicle crash on Galice Road at the Hellgate Overlook shortly after midnight Saturday.

Crews found a seriously injured subject in the roadway upon arrival.

They soon discovered that a vehicle fell approximately 200-300 feet over the neighboring embankment.

Crews say that found a second and deceased occupant of the vehicle ejected just above the water line down the embankment.

An investigation is underway by Oregon State Police and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office to determine events that led to the crash.

Rural Metro Fire say that early information obtained indicates that an assault occurred at a different location, and the vehicle was attempting to travel towards the hospital.
