Oregon Department of Forestry takes command of wildfire burning southeast of Eugene
JASPER, Ore. (KATU) — Firefighters slowed the progress of a brush along Hills Creek Road that had put residents in the area on notice Sunday night to get ready to evacuate.
"The evacuation notices were lifted late this evening in that area and currently there are not immediate structure threats," Fire Chief Andrew Smith from Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire & Rescue said late Sunday night.
As of early Monday morning, Hills Creek Road remains closed to all but local traffic, according to Lane County government.
"Please avoid the area near Jasper: Wallace Creek Road, Hills Creek Road and Jasper Road in that area," the county asked.
Smith did not have a size or containment estimate on the fire.
The local fire chief said the Oregon Department of Forestry had taken command of the fire burning on Weyerhaeuser timber property.
"There will be resources working the fire all night and during the day tomorrow," Smith said late Sunday. "Currently I can't provide a size estimate but the main forward progress of the fire has been slowed as units will work through the night."
