Residents across the state are honoring local firefighters today for Firefighter Appreciation Day.

Rural Metro Fire, which operates out of Grants Pass, posted on Facebook thanking their employees for their dedication and service to Josephine County.

Division Chief Austin Prince said the community continues to show their support in multiple ways.

"Well, it comes in all different kinds of forms through out the year," Prince said. "A lot of times, it's during some sort of disaster event. During the wildlands season, they put signs up on the roadways to show the appreciation."

Prince said the state legislature passed a resolution in 2007 to officially honor local firefighters on Jan. 27.

In their post, the agency also extended their appreciation to fire service partners, both structural and wildland, for their continuing support.
