REDMOND, Ore. - A 73-year-old Prineville man died Wednesday morning when his Chevy Malibu crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 97 and collided head-on with a commercial truck, Oregon State Police said.
The driver, identified as Richard James Lanning, died at the scene of the 9 a.m. crash on the south end of Redmond.
The 48-year-old Bend man driving the Bend Roof Truss truck was taken to the hospital. He is expected to survive.
The crash closed Hwy 97 for 3 1/3 hours as state and local authorities investigated and cleaned up the crash scene.
