Parks Commission to decide on drone request at parks
MEDFORD, Ore. —
The City of Medford Parks and Recreation Commission is discussing drones at parks at a study session tonight.
Park use regulations currently do not allow radio control devices, but because a few community members asked about racing drones the city will explore the possibility of any amendment to the rule.
However, Medford Parks and Recreation Director, Rich Rosenthal, says - of course the decision will have to keep the rest of the community in mind.
"We've heard from people who are uncomfortable with drones in the parks because they go to the parks because it's a sanctuary. They want to relax and they don't want to be surveilled by drones," said Rosenthal.
If the parks commission does decide to explore allowing drones at parks the council will bring this topic up at their next scheduled meeting.
