Passenger in police chase dies in crash
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. —
Thursday night, Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to a restraining order violation in White City.
When deputies arrived, a person there reported a suspicious vehicle, a 2013 Toyota Tundra. Deputies tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver sped off.
The driver was identified as Christopher Giron, 48, of Ashland. He attempted to elude law enforcement on Hwy 62 at a high rate of speed. When Giron tried to turn onto Hwy 140 from Hwy 62, the Tundra left the road, hit an electrical box operating the nearby traffic light and settled down an embankment.
Giron and his passenger, 50-year-old Teddy Geaney of Klamath Falls, were both transported to a nearby hospital. Geaney was pronounced dead at the hospital after suffering fatal injuries in the crash.
The Tundra was reported stolen previously.
Geaney was the suspect in the restraining order violation.
Oregon State Police are investigating the crash and were assisted by the Jackson County District Attorney's Office and ODOT.
