Pipe bomb found at Fred Meyer on Crater Lake Highway

Medford Police found a pipe bomb in the field right next to the Fred Meyer parking lot in Crater Lake Highway.

Police say witness saw 45-year-old Justin William Keaton making what they believe was a pipe bomb behind the store.

News10 spoke with the woman who called 911 who witness the incident while entering the store with her fiance.

They saw the man rushing to leave the area with the pipe and saw the container believed to have been holding some of that black powder substance.

Officers later confirmed it was a metal pipe that was loaded with gunpowder and other items before it was detonated. Two additional pounds of gunpowder and cannon fuse in Keaton's possession.

Keaton was taken into custody and lodged on several charges.
