Pistol whipping suspect shot, in critical condition at hospital

Early Tuesday morning Eddie Correia Jr., 34, was shot in the torso by an unknown person. Oregon State Police Troopers responded at about 1:00 a.m. to the shooting.

Correia is wanted as a suspect in an assault in Wimer from the weekend where he allegedly pistol whipped a person.

Correia was shot in the torso in Cave Junction in the parking lot of the Red Garter bar. He was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass and later transferred to Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford.

According to officials, witnesses say they saw someone shoot Correia from the 76 Gas Station just yards away from the bar. Investigators have not released any more information about the gunman.

Correia was first taken to Rogue Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.
