A new Beacon of Hope Gospel Rescue Mission homeless shelter is underway in Yreka. The building will be used to house homeless overnight, and provide them with material that will help them learn to be more self-sufficient.

The shelter will be located at 480 S. Foothill Drive in Yreka. According to a Facebook post, a group of volunteers broke ground on August 13th. There are currently property stakes in the ground around the perimeter of the location, but the building of the shelter has not begun.

Beacon of Hope is a non-profit organization, so the shelter will be entirely run by volunteers, and the shelter will be built by volunteer labor and community donations.

If the community is interested in donating to the shelter, they can send contributions to P. O. Box 557, Yreka 96097. Donations can also be made on their website

Beacon of Hope is also accepting resource donations for the new shelter. Some of the suggested items on their website include sleeping bags, toiletries, or new socks for the homeless.
