Police arrest suspect on manslaughter charge after fatal NE Portland shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU)– A suspect has been arrested on manslaughter charges after a deadly shooting in Northeast Portland Wednesday morning.

Tyler Wayne Pierce, 30, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

Officers responded to a report of someone shot near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Northeast Prescott Street at around 2:30 a.m.

When they arrived, they found an injured man. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death. The man will be identified when his family members have been notified.

Police say another man, who they believe was involved in the shooting, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police recovered the firearm involved in the incident.

Police believe the two men know each other. They say they do not think there is any risk to the public.

Northeast Sandy Boulevard was closed in both directions from Northeast 88th Avenue to Northeast 91st Avenue for the investigation. It reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
