PORTLAND, Ore. – A Portland teen will appear on “Jeopardy” Friday night as he tests his trivia knowledge against two other whiz kids.

The show taped months ago, so Avi Gupta already knows who won the $100,000 grand prize.

But, due to a confidentiality agreement, he can’t say if it’s him.

Thursday, he told KATU News how he prepared to face the competition.

“I read, like, the abridged works of Shakespeare, like a kids’ version of Shakespeare. I read a lot of different Sparks Notes summaries of different classic books. I studied hundreds of previous ‘Jeopardy’ game boards and I used to watch the show with the thumb exerciser,” Gupta said.

Gupta just graduated from the Catlin Gabel School in Southwest Portland. He’s headed to Columbia University in the fall.

To find out how Gupta does on “Jeopardy,” watch him compete after KATU’s 6 p.m. news.
