Reckless driver leads California Highway Patrol on high-speed chase

A reckless driver lead California Highway Patrol on a high-speed pursuit Sunday.

Around 1:30 p.m, CHP-Yreka say six different witnesses called authorities to report a reckless driver on I-5 NB possibly under the influence. An officer spotted the suspect's vehicle south of the Siskiyou Boulevard overpass in Grenada and initiated an enforcement stop.

The driver, 57-year-old Terry Allen Burchett of Tutor Key, Kentucky, failed to yield and accelerated to speeds that exceeded 100 mph. Burchett's vehicle, a 2010 grey Toyota Tundra, struck the rear end of a 2013 silver Volkswagen Jetta and the pursuit came to an end.

Burchett was arrested for recklessly evading police and driving under the influence.

CHP say the occupants of the other vehicle, Debrah Prinzing and her mother Anita, were not injured in the collision.

Yreka-CHP sends out a reminder to never drink and drive.
