Roads closed due to wildfire east of Cottage Grove
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Lane County said some roads have been closed as firefighters battle a wildfire off Row River Road, east of Cottage Grove.
Row River Road is closed on the east side between Sears Road and Garoutte. Access has been blocked at:
- Layng Road
"Lane County Emergency Management advises residents in the Row River Road area between Dowens and Shoreview east of Cottage Grove to be ready to evacuate due to fire danger," the county said on its website. "Now is the time to move people with special needs, large animals, vehicles and equipment to areas closer to Cottage Grove."
This is a LEVEL 1 (BE READY) notification. Evacuations can escalate to LEVEL 2 (GET SET) and LEVEL 3 (GO!)
State forestry confirmed a home has been lost to the fire.
Three helicopters are working the blaze, according to the county.
The fire started at 4:30 p.m.
By 8 p.m., the fire had burned about 60 acres. Oregon Department of Forestry at that time estimated containment at 10 percent.
Crews have put a line around much of the fire and are using the Row River Trail to help with containment.
Some 150 firefighters were on scene, both wildland and structural.
Personnel from local and state agencies have responded, including: South Lane Fire & Rescue, Eugene-Springfield Fire, Coburg Fire, Lowell Fire, Lane County Sheriff's Office, Lane County Search & Rescue, Lane County Emergency Management, Oregon Department of Forestry, Cottage Grove Police, Oregon State Police, and more.
