The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport staff predicted they would see their one-millionth flyer before the end of the year, and today, they have.

The airport has been steadily growing for the past six years, last year many hoped the small town airport would see the one millionth passenger, unfortunately only 901,000 passengers traveled through Rogue Valley International.

On December 28, 2018 at 1:00pm a United Airline passenger plane that departed from Los Angeles International Airport arrived at the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport.

Molly Troup was aboard that plane and said she was waiting with anticipation because airport staff called her the night before to deliver the news that she was going to be the first person to be the one millionth passenger to travel through the Rogue Valley Airport in less than one year.

The airport coordinated with the airline to present Molly with two round-trip tickets anywhere the airline travels and a free week-long airport parking pass.

"I'm thinking Italy, might as well go for the gusto I fly all the time, might as well go for the gusto," Molly said.

The new airport will be celebrating their ten-year anniversary in January of next year.

The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport is the major commercial and international airport within the rogue valley.

"It's a milestone we've never hit before, we've come close we did 109,000 passengers last year so to really cross that mark it's a big day for us we're really excited," Jason Foster, Air service and economic development Manager for the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport, said.

Travelers and local passengers are also excited to see this milestone from the airport.

"I think it's really cool, it's the only airport that is around the area so just to be able to come out here and see people from different places and knowing that I can go anywhere I want if I wanted to go, that's really cool," Medford-Jackson County Airport flyer, Fransisco Lopez said.

The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport is the third largest airport in the state of Oregon following Portland and number one and Eugene in second place.
