Salem's plastic shopping bag ban now in effect April 1
SALEM, Ore. – People in Salem will need to remember their reusable bags starting Monday, as the city imposes a ban on single-use plastic bags.
The city’s new rules state that plastic is out and paper bags will cost five cents each.
The city says the ban is supposed to help protect the environment and cut down on litter.
There is a grace period - smaller stores will still be allowed to give out plastic bags with 'prepared food' through September 1.
