A Medford man was arrested on Friday on charges related to the sexual abuse of a kindergartner at Lower Table Rock Elementary School.

Jackson County Sheriff arrested 72-year-old Jerry Duane Lodge after the investigation showed that he had- touched a 5-year-old girl while volunteering through the Foster Grandparent Program facilitated by Community Volunteer Network, a division of Pacific Retirement Services (PRS).

JCSO Detectives say, the abuse allegations surfaced on December 6th officials with the Jackson County School District #9 and PRS prevented Lodge from having any further contact with children.

School officials are sending letters home to the parents of the children in the child's classroom with a guide on how to talk to their children about the incident and how to make a report if their child says they have been abused.

The school district will offer an opportunity for parents to meet with school officials and detectives later in the week.

Previously, Lodge had volunteered in classrooms at McLoughlin Middle School and Kids Unlimited in Medford during the year. There were no allegations of abuse by Lodge at those locations.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jason Penn at 541-770-8925.
