CHP: Etna teen dead, one injured following rollover possibly involving alcohol

One person has died following a fatal crash in Etna.

According to California Highway Patrol, at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, a Ford Ranger pick-up truck was driving northbound on Eastside Road. The driver, identified as 19-year-old, Henry W. Sutter of Etna lost control of the truck, drove off the roadway through a barbed wire cattle fence, down a steep embankment, and rolled over into a small creek.

CHP says Sutter was found partially ejected underneath the truck. He was not wearing a seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, identified as 20-year-old Marquis T. Pitts of Etna, was able to climb out of the truck and walk up to the road to flag down a passing car.

Pitts was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries, listed as facial lacerations on CHP's report.

CHP believes alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
