Father allegedly fatally shoots son after altercation

Monday night around 8:10 p.m., Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of Barkhouse Creek Road in Klamath River.

SCSO say they had received a call from Stanley Mortensen,76, saying that he had shot his son with a handgun after some sort of an altercation.

Upon arriving on the scene, deputies found the son with a fatal gunshot wound on his upper torso.

Mortensen was taken into custody and lodged into the Siskiyou County Jail on 1st-degree murder.

According to Sheriff Jon Lopey, “This was a tragic incident and we still have a lot of work to do in this case. Detectives are serving a search warrant today to gather additional facts and evidence. A forensic autopsy will be conducted this week. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office 24-hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900.”
