Suspicious device found by Chetco RV Park

Curry County Sheriff's Office say Joseph Armfield is the suspect behind the bomb threat.

Police initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle driven by Armfield. Both the vehicle and Armfield had been seen earlier in the Harbor Heights neighborhood, following the report of a theft and burglary to a residence.

A deputy discovered what appeared to be a homemade explosive device laying on the back floorboard of the vehicle during the vehicle search. Oregon State Police Bomb Squad arrived on scene and successfully removed the device.

Armfield was then taken into custody without incident on a Probation Violation Detainer.


Oregon State Police is investigating a suspicious device found inside a car, after a routine traffic stop at the Chetco RV Park Wednesday evening.

OSP believe it to be dangerous and are waiting for a bomb squad to determine what the device is.

The park is located just south of Hoffeldt Lane, and OSP has evacuated residents there.

The car was parked behind the management office nearHighway 101.

According to Curry County Sheriff Deputies, Joe Armfield was driving the car, and was arrested for a probation violation and taken to county jail.
