CLACKAMAS, Ore. – One person died after a truck struck a propane tank and caught fire at a Franz bread location on Monday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. at the business along Southeast Carpenter Drive at Capps Road.

The driver died at the scene. The sheriff's office said surveillance video showed the man likely drove the truck into the propane tank intentionally. It said the man was an employee at the Franz depot. It is investigating the crash as a possible suicide. Deputies said the man may have been suffering from a mental health crisis.

The response was bumped up to a second alarm. Flames engulfed three Franz trucks. The building where the trucks were stored also caught fire.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation.

People driving through the area said the smoke was thick and could be seen for at least a mile.

"I was on my way home, and I saw a whole bunch of black smoke billowing up and then a bunch of fire trucks come up behind me," said Marie Donily.
