University of Oregon student found dead inside his tent at Shasta Lake

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is reporting that a University of Oregon student died while camping at Shasta Lake.

According to officials, Cal Fire and the Sheriff's Office Boating Safety personnel responded to Gooseneck Campground, around 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, for a report of a young man no longer breathing.

After life saving techniques were used, Cal Fire personnel determined that the 21-year-old was dead.

Investigators reported that on Friday the student was drinking alcohol during the day before going to his tent in the early evening.

On Saturday morning, the man was found in a sleeping bag inside a small tent by other students.

Investigators are reporting that there is no sign of foul play and that the death does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

It is unknown if alcohol consumption contributed to the death. The cause of death is pending a post-mortem exam.

More information about the student was released in a statement released by the university.

"The Division of Student Life has received word that a Dylan Pietrs, a 21 year old business administration major and member of the Phi Delta Gamma fraternity, died in an incident at Lake Shasta this weekend," said the letter.
