Woman gets 6 months in jail for abusing corpse of missing Portland man
PORTLAND, Ore. —
Jessica Lynne Atkinson was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 5 years probation for abusing the corpse of a missing Portland man earlier this year.
Daniel Cohen, 30, was reported missing April 7 by his family. His body was found shortly after in Lane County and his death was ruled a homicide.
Atkinson and Peter George Jirasek were both initially charged in Cohen's death, but Atkinson's murder charge was dropped.
This week, she pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse in the first degree, tampering with physical evidence, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Two other charges were dismissed.
She has been sentenced to 6 months in jail with the possibility of early release into a drug treatment program.
Jirasek has a trial date in September 2018.
