Wrong way driver arrested for fatal collision

The driver that the took the life of Ryan Folsom, of Medford, was arrested for Second Degree Murder and other charges.

On January 7th, Grace Elizabeth Ward was driving the wrong way on Interstate 5, south of Knighton Road, at a high rate of speed, where her 2009 dark grey Chevrolet Impala and crashed head-on with Folsom's 2012 maroon Honda Accord. Both Folsom and Ward were taken to Dignity Health Mercy Medical Center Redding for treatment, where Folsom died due to injuries sustained in the collision.

Ward is booked in Shasta County Jail for second-degree murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Vandalism/Property Damage.

Folsom was BYU football alum and graduated from North Medford High School.

California Highway Patrol Redding Area Acting Commander, LT. Scott Fredrick said, “Not only was this tragedy felt in California, but all the communities affected by this heartbreaking loss continue to grieve. Our officers have been working around the clock to gather the facts of this case and seek the appropriate justice in this devastating loss. The California Highway Patrol Redding Area would like to thank the many agencies who assisted at the scene, along with the assistance of the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.”
