Blazers celebrate 49 years, look ahead to 50
The Portland Trail Blazers are making plans for a year-long celebration of their 50th anniversary season in 2019-2020.
It will be a salute to five decades in Rip City.
The team held a news conference Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum, the original home of the Trail Blazers.
Blazers founding president Harry Glickman was on hand, along with Geoff Petrie, the team’s first round draft pick from 1970.
“I think this is going to be a great way to reconnect with all the people who have played a real part of making this one of the most special franchises in professional sports,” said Chris McGowan, the team’s president. “It’s been a lot of fun to work on and we’re just looking forward to celebrating with our fans.”
The Blazers won their only NBA championship in 1977 at the Coliseum. The team announced they will have a preseason game at the Coliseum on Oct. 7 against the Denver Nuggets.
