ASHLAND, Ore. – After lagging behind for 80 percent of the game, No. 14 Oregon Tech (6-1 CCC, 15-4) pulled off a 13-2 run to pass No.18 Southern Oregon University (3-4 CCC, 13-5) in the end of the second half on Tuesday, securing a 77-70 victory in their first game of the new year.

“We are playing great team defense right now,” said Head Coach Justin Parnell. “I was really proud of our guys and how they didn’t panic tonight down 13. This is the most positive team I’ve ever been a part of. We will enjoy this tonight, but tomorrow we prepare for a very tough home stand with Corban and NCU.”

From the first half it seemed as if the Raiders had a clear advantage, starting with an 11-2 run that pushed them to a lead that was held for the entire first half.

All the while, Tech was slowly whittling away at SOU’s early advantage, ending the half within 6 points of Southern Oregon - down from a high of 13. And after carrying out the run in the second half, the Hustlin’ Owls proved that they cannot be underestimated.

Juniors Mitchell Fink and Tyler Hieb led the Owls in scoring, with Fink tallying 21 points and adding 7 assists and Hieb notching 20 points. Freshmen Matt Van Tassell and Kaison Faust followed, scoring 9 and 8 points respectively and each grabbing 8 rebounds.

For the Raiders, Tristen Holmes took game high with 24 points, while Tez Allen added 13 and Jordan Hunt tallied 12 and made a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Tech’s teamwork once again helped them pull off the win, with a 26-6 advantage from their bench and a 15-9 edge in assists.

The Owls also managed to take in the benefits of SOU’s 17 turnovers, outscoring them 18-11 in points off turnovers and only committing 11 of their own, four in the second half.

Southern Oregon held a slight 43-39 edge in rebounding.

The Hustlin’ Owls will return to Klamath Falls to host Corban University on Friday and Northwest Christian University on Saturday, with both games taking place at 7:30 PM at Danny Miles Court.
