Ashland's Gaviglio Gets Going With AAA Buffalo

Former Ashland High School standout Sam Gaviglio made his first start of the 2018 season with Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.

Gaviglio went 4.1 innings with two strikeouts, two hits and two walks.

He graduated from Ashland High School in 2008. That season he posted a 13-0 win/loss record with an ERA below 0.60. Gaviglio led Ashland to the 5A State Championship game. He was name 5A 'Pitcher of the Year'.

Gaviglio was selected 40th in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. After pitching at Oregon State for a few seasons (racking up numerous accolades including All-American status), he was re-drafted in the 5th round by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2011 MLB Draft.

He had played in the Cardinals system and was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2014. He made his first start on May 11, 2017.

On March 21, 2018 he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays after being picked up on waivers by the Kansas City Royals.
