OREGON - Sen. Ron Wyden is showing his support for Portland Trail Blazers center Enes Kanter.

This comes after Kanter – a Turkish national – criticized Turkey’s president for his tactics.

The Turkish government demanded a “red notice” for Kanter., which could lead to the arrest and extradition of Kanter. It could also affect his family back in Turkey.

On Tuesday, Sen. Ron Wyden stood before the Senate, asking the State Department to tell Turkey its retribution against Kanter is unacceptable and to not cooperate with the “red notice.”

“The United States must not stay silent in the face of such a blatant attack of free thought and expression,” Sen. Wyden says.

Fear of being arrested kept Kanter in the U.S. when his former team, the New York Knicks, travelled to London.

He also stayed back when the Trail Blazers went to Canada this year.
