Fans rallied outside Moda Center for Game 1 of Western Conference finals
The Moda Center hosted a huge outdoor watch party for Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals Tuesday night.
With the team in Oakland, fans rallied at the watch party, where they got to watch the entire game on a 30-foot outdoor screen.
Despite the fickle weather, a couple hundred supporters still came out to cheer on their team.
KATU News met a Blazers super fan who is turning heads with his bright red Mini Cooper. The car is decked out in Blazers paraphernalia. Inside, you'll find players' bobble heads and basketball jerseys, from the likes of Scottie Pippen and Arvydas Sabonis, draped over the seats.
"It's just fun to get people excited," said Rick Green, the owner of the car.
Green says he's been collecting mementos since Portland got the franchise.
Those who attended, got food and drinks from Jacks while watching the game on the jumbo screen. The Blazer Dancers and Blaze, the Trail Cat, were also there to keep the crowd energized.
"This is pandemonium. It's what Portland needs," said Bob Owens, a Blazers fan.
There were even some brave Warriors' fans who sneaked into Blazers Country.
"I'm feeling great. There's nothing about this that I'm worried about," said Xavier Lewis, a Golden State Warriors fan.
It was nearly 20 years ago the last time the Blazers were in the Western Conference Finals.
KATU asked fans what they were doing at the time.
"I was working nights and I was at a Godfather's Pizza watching it on my lunch hour," said Green.
"I wasn't even born yet," said Angelina Mankiham.
"I was born the next fall. It's pretty exciting. I've grown up hearing about it from my parents, you know, the 2000 Western Conference Finals, so I'm pretty excited," said Sam Jones, a Blazers fan.
The Portland Trail Blazers are taking on the Golden State Warriors in a best of seven series, fighting for a shot to go to the NBA Finals. The team lost Game 1 Tuesday. Game 2 will be Thursday in Oakland.
